About

What this index is and how it is put together

Court of Magic is an independent editorial index of hotels. It lists eleven properties, grouped into four categories: art hotels, capsule hotels, casino hotels and ice hotels. There is no booking engine here, no affiliate arrangement and no paid placement; a hotel appears because it was worth writing up.

Why four categories

Most hotel lists sort by city or by price. This one sorts by the kind of question a building answers. An art hotel is a place you choose for the architecture or the interior; a capsule hotel is a place you choose because the night should cost very little and take up very little space; an ice hotel exists for part of the year and then melts. Grouping them this way makes the differences legible in a way a city list never does.

The domain name is a fantasy phrase and the site is not. There is no magic here — only buildings, beds and a fairly practical interest in how both are organised.

How entries are written

Every entry is built from general, durable facts about a property: where it stands, what kind of building it is, how the rooms are arranged and what else is on site. We avoid anything that changes week to week, anything that would need a source we cannot stand behind, and anything that reads like marketing copy supplied by the hotel.

We do not publish reviews, star ratings or guest testimonials, because we do not collect them. If an entry is wrong on a matter of fact, we would rather hear about it and fix it than leave it standing.

The casino category

The four properties in that category are hotels that happen to include a regulated gaming floor among their facilities. They are described here as hotels: rooms, restaurants, theatres, transport links and setting. Nothing on this site encourages gambling, explains how to gamble or presents it as entertainment to seek out.

Geography

The index is deliberately geo-neutral. Entries are spread across Europe, Asia and North America, and no country is treated as the home market. Distances, seasons and transport notes are given in whatever terms make sense for the property in question.
